Today, I want to talk about something that’s been very real in our lives lately—the battles and trials that often come when we start to dive deeper into our faith. As our family has been pouring our hearts into our relationship with Christ—serving more at church, reading our Bibles daily, plus more—we’ve encountered some challenging hurdles that have tested our resolve.
It’s incredible how the enemy seems to ramp up his attacks when we’re committed to growing closer to God. In my experience, the moment we make that conscious decision to deepen our faith, challenges can crop up in unexpected ways. It’s almost as if we’ve painted a target on our backs!
A Series of Trials
In the past few months, we’ve faced some significant trials. I mean, who could have ever imagined that while trying to deepen our connection with the Lord, we would be navigating persistent illness with our 3-year-old, enduring mental health struggles with our children, and my mom having a stroke? Each of these situations felt overwhelming, almost like a storm cloud overshadowing our journey towards spiritual growth.
But it’s precisely in these moments of adversity that we must cling to our faith. James 1:2-4 reminds us, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” This verse encourages us to find strength in our struggles, seeing them as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks.
God’s Presence in Our Trials
Through every trial, we've learned that our trust in God is what carries us through. Without Him, facing these circumstances would be daunting, but having Him at our center provides peace and reassurance. Romans 8:28 beautifully encapsulates this, stating, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even in our most challenging moments, we hold onto the belief that God has a purpose and will bring good out of our struggles.
These experiences have also reminded us of the importance of community. With each battle, the encouragement and prayers from our friends and church family have been lifelines. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Being surrounded by a supportive community helps lighten the burdens we face together.
Resisting the Enemy’s Attacks
It's essential to be aware of the spiritual warfare that often accompanies our pursuit of deeper faith. The enemy does not want us to grow closer to God; he wants to sow doubt and despair. Ephesians 6:10-11 urges us to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.” This armor is vital as we face life’s battles; it equips us to stand firm against the challenges that arise.
As we continue our journey, we remind ourselves to stay anchored in prayer, shielded by scripture, and supported by our faith community. Each trial we face strengthens us, teaching us to rely on God more fully and trust His plan, even when it's hard to see the light.
A Call to Trust
So, if you find yourself in the midst of trials as you seek to deepen your relationship with God, take heart! You're not alone, and your fight is not in vain. Lean into your faith, surround yourself with community, and remember that every battle is an opportunity for growth and a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
Let’s support each other in our journeys, knowing that through faith, we can overcome any obstacle. Trust in Him, and you’ll find that He is with you every step of the way.
Together, we can embrace both the joys and challenges of our faith, confidently walking forward in our relationship with Christ.
